4th Generation vehicle speed sensor o-ring leaking differential fluid?

I have a 97 camry LE I4 with 60,100 miles. There's been a leak on top of the transmission case where the vehicle speed sensor sits. I looked in the Haynes and it says the vss has an o-ring that may have gone bad. Weird part is that the puddle of fluid is brown looking (like motor oil) so I'm guessing I have some type of gear oil in the differential instead of regular ATF that is being spit out from the vss. I'm pretty sure there's nothing that is dripping down from above and that it's coming out from the vss. I've wiped the area clean a couple of times and appears to be a slow leak and only leaks when the vehicle is moving. Anyone else have this problem before? Is it possible for the differential fluid to weep out from the bad vss o-ring? Thanks.
