Reason why camrys are the Least popluar import car.
I dont know if this is true but i believe that the Camry is the least popular import car. This make our camry owners feel mad..especially me!
Why?
Reason 1: I have subscribe to IMPORTTUNNER, MODIFIED, SUPERSTREET, IMPORT RACER, TURBO, SPORTCOMPACT CAR, and non of these magazine have Camrys in them.
Reason 2: There arent many aftermarket parts out there for the camry so most of them have to be custom, which money is an issue, People would rather spend money on Accord, Civics (cheaper) than invested in Camry just to put it on Magazine,
I heard someone posting here a while ago that a guy name Shawn try to get IMPORTTUNNER to take photos of his car (white 96 camry tubro charge sedan) and picture in their magazine but some was denied because they say it wasn't that popular.
So have you guys here got your ride (92 camry and up) into these magazine yet?
its the whole image of the car as a family sedan...whereas civics were lighter and cheaper to own or mod and the trend became self-feeding and now we have how many civic ricers, wannabes, and the new civic Si

the one Camry that i can think of off the top of my head that has had major coverage in a magazine was Eddie Habecks Gen4 (white with a sick pol audio system, since hes sponsored by them, NOS, bodykit, upercharger, etc)
Hondas certainly have an advantage in popularity, aftermarket support, etc. But once a truly thoroughly done Camry is done, which i think will happen sometime this year, it will be somethign much more special than any honda out there. but even still don't expect there to be more than 2 or 3 recognized camry's, there just isnt the aftermarket supprt.

yeah, i agree. even though accord is considered a family sedan as well, people tends to think of it as a sports car. i mean it does have more aftermarket support, but afterall, its still a family sedan. overall, i think that it's an advantage for camry's lack of popularity among tuners, it is this lack that makes camry modifiers special and standout among the everyday civics, accord, prelude....so on.
there was also a white gen3 camry that got some coverage. I cant remeber his name, but he posted on here a couple of times. He sold it a year or two ago and got an is300 wagon.
camrys arent popular anymore because they are just too generic looking. for a while generic looking was the style and camrys were the shizzle, but now the culture has changed a bit and u can get some pretty hot used cars and new cars for a similar price as a camry so ppl just moved that way.. toyota is gonna have to change the styling to keep up with the new trends, look at bmw with the 3 series, it used to be conservative, now its kinda flashy and edgy and i bet the new one will sell as well as the old ones and be as popular.. toyota needs to do that too. Atleast the yaris is keeping up with the times

You talk about generic looking, and then mention BMW. Not startin' shit, but it just seems kinda contradictory. BMW's are a dime a dozen it seems anymore. They're not exotic, and aside from the overly pricey ones (think 6 series and up) they really don't have much of an "edge" as far as looks. However, I think they have a "classic" look to them, which is what appeals to people (aside from the name alone). The Camry is along similar lines, or it was atleast, which is why it is one of the top selling cars. However, looks should take a second seat (or thrid, if you will) to reliability and performance. It seems that in order to be on the cutting edge of auto stylings, a lot of customization is necessary, as well as totally off the wall designs. Look at the bently, benz, beemer, etc...all cars that in their own time, had a unique style. Once it was a possibility, other companies essentially copied them, creating a general trend among automotive styling (Isn't it funny how much a 300 looks like a bently, or how mercedes-benz-like headlights can be found on many other cars these days.) I dunno, just a thought.
Camry's are great import cars, and one of the most popular across the board. However, because it is marketed more as a family/luxury sedan, fewer parts are made for it as far as tuning and performance goes. You want to talk least popular import car, lets talk daewoo.

No it is not true better check some facts first! Last I read it was #1 8 of the last 9 years.
Why isn't it in the modding mags? Because it is designed and marketed as a family car!
Why aren't there after market performance parts? Same reason as above! I don't see a lot of performance parts for the Crown Vic for the same reason.

I'm doing my best to get into a mag... I ditched the HCI thing... maybe modified or import racer (now called import performance) are getting closer for me... my last "hoorah!"

i think if toyotas were at the same par level as with honda or other imports, then i probably wouldn't like my camry nearly as much. the reason that you brought up about not likeing is the exact opposite from me. i love our image the way it is. i could shave off that "T" logo, and NOBODY would even think about it being a toyota! but i chose to leave it on cause i know it'll be that more unique you know!
i love my cam for that reason. but you do have a point, and i can see your side!
also one reason why there is alot of demand for modding accords (family sedan) because they pride themselves on makeing a stylish 2 door accord for every generation, so really only some of the accords are "family sedans" the other half are ricer coupes!

I'm with Gary on this. The Camry is marketed as a family car and sells well as such.
Trying finding a Camry of any generation with a manual gearbox is quite an adventure. They are around, but it is hard to find one for sale, especially a V6.
