4th Generation Smooth Shifts

I think i may have a problem with my tranny. i have noticed that when the gears changes from 1st to 2nd, the shift is not smooth. a jerk is felt. but it shifts smoothly thereafter 2nd to 3rd and fourth and vicevera. i have just had my tranny swapped and the shifting is same like my previos tranny (jerk from 1st to 2nd). is it normal with a 4cyl or something to do with the soneloid valve. the shifting is barely noticable in a v6. Is synthetic ATF good for the tranny and will it make shifting smoother. (The swapped tranny is around 40,000 miles)

do you have TWO cables going off your throttle body? one is the throttle cable, the other goes to the transmission to tell it how hard to shift/at certain rpm.

LOOSEN this cable, there are 2 nuts, just spien the outher one clooser to the transmission loose, then the inner one to tighten it back up.

remember though the harsh shift is actaully better on the transmission as it spends less time "in between" gears.

may be your motor mounts. i had the same problem. then i found out my mounts were torn and had them replaced, not intending to fix the hard shifting, but it did. =)

well the two suggestions above are what i'd do first before anything else. A transmission flush is very helpful as well (only if your fluid is dark/black.)

Mine had the same problem, turned out to be an issue with the valve body in the transmission. Just needed cleaned, runs good as new now.

well i had tried the cable adjustment the shifts are quicker now but still does not solve the hard shift from 1st to 2nd. secondly about the cleaning of the valve body, is it a DIY or a trip to the garage. where is it located.

This will require draining the transmission pan and removing it.

DIY'able.

Personally i wouldnt tighten the or loosen the cable to either extreme. I highly doubt that is good for the vehicle.

I adjusted mine a little bit and that made a noticible difference...going all the way tight or loose must make a HUGE difference.

I wouldnt recommend it.
