How would u explain this?

so i have to order an intake hose from toyota, because apparently it is a "special order" item. so for now i have used duct tape to seal the crack untill my hose comes in. well, the bucking problem that i had when i would start out in first gear, it would just start bucking, horribly. and now since i have taped the crack it doesnt do that anymore. can someone explain what was going on? why would getting to much air cause it to buck?

The ECU's attempts to measure the variables that impact upon the engine's performance, and to respond accordingly, are being frustrated by the leaking hose. The engine, obviously, is not designed to operate with the crack and leak. The ECU does not "understand" that there's a crack there, and it's trying to make corrections while assuming that the engine is configured as it was intended to be. But it's not.

^Don't forget to add that if the crack is behind the MAF sensor, the sensor thinks that you're getting less air than you actually are.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.
