3rd Generation Lean Spark Plugs?

What do lean spark plugs indicate? All i could find out is that it might have something to do with air/fuel ratio, but what causes this?

Lean spark plugs can idicate a lot of things: too advanced ignition timing,
low octane rated fuel, wrong plugs (too hot) ect. since you have a cali
5S-FE engine there are emissions related things that could have failed too
resulting a lean mixture.

i have the standard ngk which is recommended, the octane rate is 87 or the cheapest which should be right for my car. i dont know what advance timing ignition means, is that ignition too soon before fuel reaches engine? Someone told me that I have have bad fuel injectors so not enough fuel is getting in. Is that a valid reason too?

Vacum leaks, injectors and the list goes on! Take it to a good mechanic. Not just someone who wants to throw parts at it! Running to lean is not good on the engine.

run fuel system cleaner through your gas tank and injectors. I would suggest Lucas over STP. Also change out your fuel filter. And also have a shop, if you don't feel confident doing it yourself, check your timing. Once all those issues are taken care of you should be squared away.

thanks, thats definitely something i could work with. The fuel filter was changed not too long ago but before i change it again, I will buy the smaller bottle of the lucas fuel and injector cleaner and see how it works first. I will keep you posted on the results. Hope it will do for me what it did for you.
