2nd Generation Engine noise... Help me plz

Hi all,
i'm having an issue with my 90 camry v6... when i drive the car it keeps on making a popping noise or knocking noise from the engine... i'm not sure if it's from the engine or the tranny... i only happens when the engine is in motion... if it's on park and i rev the engine no popping... but when i put it into drive and drive around i would hear this popping since i live on top of a big hill i put the car into neutral and roll it down the hill the i can still here the popping noise with the engine on of course... at first it only happened for a short time then it would go away but now it seems to be popping continuesly but randomly too..

i'm thinking it's time for a new engine within the this year...

Jack up your car, pull a front wheel off, and check the boot on the cv axel, if its broken replace it, if not:

ask yourself

1. Am i sure this noise is coming from the engine?
2. When does it happen most?
3. Why doesnt it make the noise in park?

Maby bad oil pump or not enoph oil? B.c like you said it doesnt happen when you rev it. And also you live on a big hill so the oil might be going to one side of the oil pan. Might be valve nocking b.c of low oil pressure.

i think i may be low oil pressure because both my axles just got serviced or changed about 6 months ago so i'm pretty sure it's not the axle... btw how would i go about checking the oil pressure?? thx

is the popping noiise constant or only whe you accelerate or decelerate. IF it is only when you do one or the other it could very posibly be motor mounts allowing the engine to move more than it should.

As for checking the oil pressure you have to remove the oil pressure sending unit and install a oil pressure guage in its place. then run the car at different speeds to see wht it is. You can probably buy one pretty cheap or mabe autozone rents one out. If you know someone that has one that is an option also.
