2nd Generation Info needed on R&R of automatic tranny

How much time does it take to replace an auto tranny in a Gen 2 Camry? Is there a tech article online showing tips/steps on the install?

Thanks,

PDX

IF you are doing it yourself in your garage I would plan on it taking pretty much all day to remove it and then probably half that time to reinstall at least. IT is normally easier to reinstall since than take it out.

You can try Autozone.com in the repair info section for online guides to removal. Your best bet though would be to get a Haynes manual at your local parts store. That way you have it on hand in front of you when you run into a problem.

You are more than likely going to have to raise the car up high enough to get the front subframe cradle out of the car so that you will ahve room to remove the trans. It is damn near impossible to remove it with the cradle still in the car. IF you do this you will need somekind of support for the engien since there will be no mounts holding it in after you remove the cradle.Best thing to do is have some kind of engine hoist that will sit on the fenders above the engine so you have room to work still
