Tinted Windows

Anybody knows why Tinited windows (very dark) is legal on Vans/suv and not cars. I know they are legal with certain percentages but not as dark as it would on a van or suv

i took my car for a bodyshop to tint my windows and they said they could only do 35% both front doors and 25% back doors and rear windows.

Also has anybody got caught with very dark tinted windows?

i heard they are illegal everywhere but not quite sure. Maybe in certain states..

3rd Generation

Hello fellow Toyota owner,

Every state has there own laws about tint auto windows. Here in California where I live in the Bay Area it is legal to have 5% tint on all the windows behind the front doors. By law it is illegal to have tint on the driver's and passanger's front doors. But I do see quite a few cars that has 50% tint on the fronts. Depending on the police officer's they usually won't pull you over. I hope this help.

on trucks and vans and stuff you can have them as dark as you want i believe, but only on the back windwos, so any window other than the windshield and the from two passenger and drivers side.

i think it's just cause they are bigger vehicles, and the visibilty is different on cars cause they are smaller, although ther are some states that let smaller cars have dark tint on thier back windows, just not on the front.

From my understanding it's for the safety of police officers. When they pull over a vehicle for traffic violations, they have to be able to easily see inside as they are approaching the vehicle.

Usually they don't pull you over specifically for tint. But if they pull you over and notice it's too dark, They'll cite you for it.

Hey I know all to well about this, last September I got was followed for a good 2 miles and then got pulled over, the cop told me my tint was too dark, and also the music while I was driving was too loud!! I have 20% all around except on front windshield, in Maryland the legal limit is 35%, its so weird how many people around the way have tinted their front windshield as well, I want to do it but I can’t afford to take it off

You'd be surprised at what cops do when they aren't out catching the real criminals. They literally sit around pulling people over for tint problems. I totally think its a waste of our tax money and they simply need to catch the people who are really breaking the law.

But to avoid hassle i just never bothered to tint my fronts. Funny how all my friends think my fronts are already tinted....
