not all, that is the sound of the blow off valve. it functions to let all the extra boost pressure into the atmosphere, so you hear this big "PSHHHH" sound.
Funny sound? I think it sounds wicked. Ever heard airbrakes on a semi or a bus?
Most turbocharged cars have a recirc valve which recirculates the excess pressure back into the intake before the turbo. With this you don't hear any blow off noises.
The sound happens when you vent the excess pressure into the air. This is usually done with a blow off valve (bov).
The blow off valve helps vent off excess boost pressure to the atmosphere as soon as the throttle is let off. Without it, the inertia of the air going to the engine (the boost created by the turbo) that is being stopped by the throttlebody will "kick back" at the turbocharger; as a result, it will damage the turbo because of the sudden deceleration of the turbine.
So other than having those cool sounds and creating threat to other drivers on the road ( ), it is beneficial to have a BOV.

I can definitely feel the power of a 13 sec car right now in my Camry... but I have to see how the traction will be and how the gearing does for 1/4 mile racing. On the highway, it pulls like a bitch with the super long 3rd gear (my favourite gear)
