PS fluid - do I need to flush

Hi,

I am a very new owner of a '92 Camry. The car came without a manual but low on PS fluid so I went to an AutoZone and asked for PS fluid. I told the guy the make and the year and he told me that the STP Power Steering fluid will do. I asked him if he was sure and he said yes. I bought the fluid and filled the reservoir.

I ordered a manual that arrived a few days later and I saw that the required fluid is DEXRON-II automatic transmission fluid. Did I make a big mistake by using STP PS fluid? Do I need to flush the system? Am I ruining my PS system? I am quite worried.

Thank you,

its pretty much the same thing, both will work. When it turns a brown color then flush it, but that wount be for a while.

STP probably costs more than regular DEXRON-II ATF oil, but there`s
really no need for a specialised PS fluid, just a waste of money.

Once in a while i used a turkey baster to suck out my brake fluid and power steering reservoir and then refill. Its easy and a quick way to get some dirt out and some new additives in, maybe help the machinery live longer.
