Does anyone here have one on a 5sfe? I did a search and didnt find much on those. I was planning on doing headers, exhaust, and CAI. What will the ECU add if anything? I know alot of people say they dont do anything but come on, I find that hard to believe, does anyone have one of these installed on a non turbo 5sfe (the technosquare one, not the other crap out there)? Any concerete HP figures out there? I know with a RIPP mods S/C it would definately help. 10-15 hp you think?
bit pricey.... get a fueltronics(powerchip) or unichip or something.. cheaper, plug n play, and mroe reputable.
just remember youll be running the most expensive gas you can buy to keep the new ecu mappings at their max settings without retarding.
in general, a properly mapped/timed ecu will give more gains and economey then complete exhasut and intake mods.

I would say that if you are just planning on doing basic bolt-ons, such as headers, intake, exhaust, clutch & FW I would invest in a piggyback instead, like an SAFC-II or if you really want to go close to standalone get the new Emanage Ultimate (which adjusts both timing and fuel) Either one of those two piggybacks should allow you to maximize the gains from bolt-on mods. Now if you are looking to do alot more than bolt-ons then i would say to totally go for the standalone.

unichips can be remapped, they handle ignition and fuel. emanges are a bit pricey.. an SMT-6 or 7 while not being the best, will work better and is far cheaper.

Yo I would really love to get a Unichip system but people are telling me that they are a bit cheaper? How cheap is that cus one of the only places I found one on the internet was going for 880. I called up a local dealer and they said they didn't have a 99 camry in their computer so they would need to hard wire it and it'll run me over 1500 dollars for them to go about doing that?
well unichips are $900AUD which means less in USD.
actually, Unichip/Powerchips etc are all around the $900-950AUD mark.

oh K so the cost I had seen on the website is about right then? one more question since buying it off the internet would be the most sensible thing to do, should the local company be able to remap it for me once I get my exhaust system, even thought I didn't get the unchip from them?
So should pretty much any piggy back system cost the much, is there anything cheaper that also has a good name, because I've heard many bad things about people who have sent their ECUs to Jet, saying that they don't feel any power gains. I also find it hard to believe that Jet worked on our ECU being that they can't be remapped
The Powerchip (fueltronics) computer on mine works fantastic! Althought sometime i do tend to think that $890AUD JUST for the gain i got is a bit pricey..but still...its one of those things were theres not much else...apart from a SMT6/7. Alot of people ive talked to say that why don't you go for a full standalone, which can be had for another 400 or so hundred...but the good thing with piggybacks is that they are "reliable" in a sense. There simple, plug n play..whereas fulll systems require rewiring, tuning etc which can be constly and time consuming, and sometimes, on going.. Unless you have, or have plans to, go with a turbo or highly modified engine which requires that vigorous tuning, stick with piggybacks like Unichip and Powerchip etc etc.
EDIT: Very tired, apologies for grammar and spelling

What am I looking at in terms of HP gain when I bolt on one of those piggybacks in addition to some exhaust, headers and CAI? The reason I ask is becasue I am trying to go by cost/hp gained ratio. CAI is the best imo [on a stock 5sfe] (~250/4), then comes the turbo (~50/3000) then there are the headers and then the piggyback (keep in mind this is for a stock engine and not including labor). Did I miss any other worthwile mods?
