so on the I4 exhaust, the first can is the cat, the second is the resonator, the last one is the muffler correct ? so if thats correct, whats the diff between resonator and muffler ?

i'm guessing the resonator makes it less loud and less raspy? and the muffler....supposedly does it too on a stock car, but you could get an aftermarket one to make it louder?

so that means if i do a custom Y piping without the resonator, and use ebay mufflers, it'll be a rice sound ?
cause i want to get as deep as i can. i heard a passat yesterday and it was like... =O... low and deep..
ok so on ebay, there were hi flow cats/resonator... now is that resonator COMBINED with the cat ?? now i'm uber confused... on the stock, they're seperate correct ?
so what will make it deeper ? a hi flow cat/resonator with ebay muffler or hi flow cat and ebay muffler (with out resonator ) ?

do you know those old truck/ muscle car sound? deep and low?
yeah, they use Y pipe without a resonator. A car without a resonator will sound very deep. If you add a straight muffler to it, your car will sound like a true muscle car.
Yes, on stock car, cat and resonator/ muffler are separated for easy replacing, and thats the way they should be, dont get cheap cat off ebay, invest in high quality like carsound cat, it will last in the future.
I dont know whats the good size for a stock engine but i believe 2.5 ", in my old Integra, 2.25" is a ideal size for a stock engine, but then a camry has 2.2 L engine, a teg only has 1.8 L
About the rice sound off the ebay muffler.......ya, maybe, depend on the muffle design, if I were you, I will get a good muffler like Flowmaster or the like, to make it sound deep and nice when accelerate

The resonator eliminate the sound from the engine at low RPM aka idle, while the muffler will help to reduce the noise when more exhaust gas coming out a.k.a accelerating/ driving, so if you like a nice/louder sound when driving, a muffle is great, but if you want a nice deep tone when driving and idling, get a combo Y pipe (no resonator) and a nice muffle

unfortunately, the camry 2.2 does not sound good so without a resonator all you hear is the raw engine sound which sucks, and not a mean low off foring grumble like a big old v8 which pushes a lot of air.
as for the difference between a resonator and a muffler, there really isnt any, they both restrict airflow but reduce sound levels.
the combind cat/resonators you see on ebay are only resonators, which you replace your cat with for 'race' purposes.
if you just want to have dual mufflers, split it after the stock resonator and buy 2 LARGE mufflers. this will mean youre gonna have to hammer your spare wheel well to make one fit on the other side of the car.
small mufflers sound shit. big ones allow for more 'silencing' room to get rid of the rasp.
or get something like a street magnaflow where the perforations on the inner tube dont go the whole length of the muffler reducing flow but in turn making it sound better =)

ok so i'm going to replace the cat with high flow, then for deep sound, i should KEEP my resonator BUT replace it with a GOOD aftermarket one, then Y after resonator, and get two good mufflers right ?
cause i actually like the ebay mufflers, when people see it, they think rice, but they don't know that i have a s/c on my car, etc (well i don't have s/c right now but i will, if u get what i mean). so i'm trying to find a way to get a deep muscle car sound with the rice mufflers off ebay.
so should i go for aftermarket cat, resonator, custon Y, two ebay mufflers or will that be rice and not deep at all ? (2.25 piping)
just Y pipe it after the stock resonator, use 2.25" piping, this will keep costs down, and the ever so slightly more restrictive stock hi flow cat and spiral resonator will keep the tone as low as possible.
just remember cheap ebay mufflers dont sound good.
