Throttle Body Question

Well, I'm once again showing my n00bness...

I've read a lot about cleaning the throttle body, etc. and my '94 Camry has never had it done...

I asked a mechanic friend of mine and he'd never heard of the throttle body (maybe it has a different name in Australia)?

Basically - do I4 Camry's even have throttle bodies? If so, where is it and how do I clean it! All the info is for 6ers.. And I need a nice simple explanation to tell my mechanic friend what a throttle body is, where it is, if I have one and how to clean it? (Seafoam down the pipe thingy basically, either whilst idling or turned off?)

throttle body is there your air intake goes into your manifold. If you have the stock setup, your throttle body is where the plastic air intake ends that meets with the metal part. If you remove the air intake pipe, you can see a valve. That part is your throttle body and the butterfly valve and its surrounding area are the part that needs cleaning.

you NEED a new mechanic.

and its too hard to get seafoam in australia. look for something else with the same active ingredients ($5 can, $50 shipping).

Okay then... what has the similar ingredients to SeaFoam? Help!

(To Terrastrife) Actually, unfortunately, all the mechanics around here are like that. It's redneck central.

That'll work? (Carb cleaner that is.)

I just spray it all over the bit explained above with the butterfly valve? I read about some guy sticking a whole can in...

Some people were reccomending with engine idling, some with engine off.. any differences?

(I printed the part of the thread WITHOUT the mechanic insults to spare his feelings when explaining the throttle body! )

Jumped the fence and went to my neighbour's shed (don't you love outback Australia?) and told him about Carb cleaner.

He got some terminal cleaner and said it might do...

So I now have a can of "CO Contact Cleaner" in my hand. It's a precision electronic cleaning solvent. It has the following ingredients: ... Well it doesn't say what it has in it.

It doesn't really sound right to me... Isn't the throttle body like a moving part, but then again this cleaner is designed for tape heads and stuff too... soo... opinions?

If you have O2 sensors on your Camrys in Australia, make sure whatever you get (carb cleaner, throttle body cleaner, air intake cleaner) says "Oxygen Sensor Safe" right on the can. Don't use any solvent that is not Oxygen Sensor Safe or you will feel a pain in your pocket book.
