Oil Lamp turned on...

1998 Camry XLE v6 auto....

100k miles on it.. maintained very well... just got the oil change done 600 miles ago

The oil lamp turned on, on the dashboard.

Car ran fine still made it home ok... nothing out of the ordinary, no oil drips either.


suggestions??? Before i take it to the dealership to pay an arm and a leg to fix it.


I was thinking perhaps the oil pressure sender?

but when you say nothing out of the ordinary, did you check the oil level?
you said that you GOT it changed- maybe they overfilled / underfilled by a lot

Don't continue driving the car. Check the oil level like Eye8pussies suggested. If the oil level is low or high, correct it. If the oil level is not abnormal, then don't drive the car. Have it towed in some place. They will first remove your oil sending unit and install a mechanical gage and check the actual oil pressure reading. If it is in spec, then it is your sending unit that is defective and they will replace that. Keep your fingers crossed for that because that is a cheap fix. If it is actually low on oil pressure, then they will have to look further to determine is the pressure is low due to a bad oil pump or even worn out engine bearings. Like I said before, don't drive it until you get this checked out.
