Toyota Extra Care Protection

I have just purchased a 2003 Camry SE and will take delivery in 3 weeks. I have not made a decision yet as to purchasing their ECP. The cost is $1249 Canadian for 72 months, 120,000 KM. I'm looking for opinions as to whether this is money well spent. I had a 93 Camry LE that I took the ECP (72 mths, unlimited mileage) on and never had to use it.

Thanks

Congrates and welcome to TN!

I just glanced through the ECP and it doesn't look like that great of a deal for approx $200/yr. You can get a CAA membership that covers just about the same stuff for $100/yr. In addition, CAA has a larger network, which means if you do need them, they can dispatch quickly. Whereas Toyota contracts out resulting in fewer drivers to assist you.

Here's CAA's website
CAA.ca

vs.

Toyota ECP

Huh, Toyota ECP compared o CAA?
my brother had ECP on his supra for a year because the previous owner purchased it, and it was transferable, and he got a tranny rebuild, timing belt and new turbo out of it. I doubt if CAA is going to do that for yah, unless they have new coverage i don't know about. i have been with CAA since i first started to drive. CAA is a must for everyone.

It sounds to me like you don't need ECP. If you drive hard, it would be a good thing to have, but if you drive the new one like you drove the other toyota, you will most likely not need it. i would save the money for other aftermarket pimpin' options. :0

Aren't mecahnical failures like you mentioned covered under warranty? Maybe I don't fully understand what ECP entitles you to Is ECP extended warranty?

Put your hammer away phi.

Yeah, ECP is extended warentee, plus things like a rental cars and tows. I was pointing out that ECP is not the same as CAA, which is how i read your ealier post. ECP could be described as the combination of a regular extended warentee plus the benefits of CAA, but i wouldn't call them the same.

CAA is about 50-75 dollars a year, or less if you pump at sunoco, and the ECP was over 1200.

The hammer was directed at my stupid ass, not yours (this one is for you )

Much clearer now. Still, car rentals are coverered under comprehensive car insurance (as result of accident as opposed to breakdown), CAA would cover towing. I guess ECP is moreless peace of mind against mechanical failure more than anything. Wether one decides to buy it would be completly personal.

So let's say my rad blows and my exhaust leaks...will ECP replace these items or would they be considered "wear-n-tear" items?

we have toyota's Platinum 6yrs/100k mile warranty on our 2000 Camry LE V6, cost us $999 USD at time of purchase. We now have 69,000 Miles on it, yes 69,000 miles, and haven't had any warranty repairs needed. Save the cash.
