3rd Generation Help!! Weird Vibration

Hi,

I am from Australia and own a 1993 Toyota Camry Executive (Manual).

I just returned from a 50km round trip and encountered a problem whilst driving.

During the drive when I was accelerating, a vibration feeling started to occur throughout the car.

The best description I can give on what it feels like is when you go up a hill in a higher gear. The vibration in the car occurs mainly when accelerating (strongest when accelerating in 3rd and 4th gear).

It also occurs when I have the foot off the accelerator except it is not as strong. I checked to make sure the leads where still connected to the spark plugs and they are.

I havent lost any noticable power, it is just really annoying!!

Any ideas? Could it be a lead failing (spark plugs are only 3000km old), or something to do with the gear box or diff?
The clutch appears to be fine as there is no slippage or anything. Also the engine idles without an issue, so it doesnt feel like it is missing.

Thanks!

Hey Hilly, welcome to TN. To help narrow down the problem, a little more info is required.

Does the vibration occur while the car is stationary, or only when moving?

Do you feel it more through the hands, or the seat of your pants?

With so many things that can cause vibes, these two Q's should help to narrow it down to either a chassis or front end problem.

Hey,

The vibration only occurs when the vehicle is moving and in gear.

It is a vibration that goes throughout the car. So I can feel it evenly through the wheel and seat.

It is just like when you are taking on a hill and dont change down soon enough, so you feel the gear starting to struggling. However when the vibration occurs I cannot sense a loss of power.

does it happen at particular speeds, or at any speed, even when the car is just crawling?

Its worse when accelerating from 40 to 60km/hr in 3rd. In the lower gears you cant really notice it.

Just went out for another run. Problem vanished until after 5 or so km and then it returned. Press the accelerator and it vibrates, and also when you take your foot off the pedal.

Im thinking its either the coil or one of the leads is starting to fail. Mainly because it seems the problem occurs only when the engine gets warm.
