I talked to someone that worked for the Toyota dealer, and he said the power button did nothing that he could feel. LOL.
Well buddy, I OWN a Camry and that button definatly does somthing. Aside from shifting later(redline if you mash it), I think it also remaps the fuel or somthing becuase it seems to have more torque thruout the entire rpm range, and fuel efficency seems to drop.
i have an 89 le 4cyld and with mine it gives more torque at the wheels and it changes the shift patterns where it shifts later in 3rd and 4th gears i have a 5 speed automatic, however the acceleration times are practally the same except in the first 2 gears where it is when in power u get a lil quicker start. 0-60 are about the same though with both though. they say in the manual to use power when towing or carrying a heavier load.

run them till they die or until you die, which ever comes first
My dad has a 90 maxima, when I drove it in COMFORT mode, it shifts at 3500 rpm, even if I mash the pedal.. when in POWER mode it shifts like 300rpm before redline.
ouch...now this is a subject that's been covered a couple of times over....
but either wayz....
basically, the power button only changes the shift points....thus allowing more aggressive driving, because the peak power on the camrys are between 4.5k and 5.5k.....ranges which you don't usually hit unless you use that putton....
and as for the lower fuel efficiency... higher RPMs = using more gas....makes sense?
and when that button's down, and o/d is off....you can redline....and beyond....and if that doesn't work....shift into 2nd and just go on the highway that way....and then have fun...lol!

Also, another thing to note is most new cars don't have a PWR/NORM or PWR/ECON mode because the logic of the transmission's a little smarter and knows when you have the pedal mashed.
YEAH I HAVE A 5 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CUSTOM MADE TO WORK WITH THE POWER BUTTON INCLUDED. IT IS WIDE RANGE. 1 GEAR IS 0-17MPH, 2ND IS 18-31MPH, 3RD IS 32-50MPH, 4TH IS 51-95MPH, 5TH IS 96-146MPH WHICH IS THE HIGHEST I HAVE GOT IT TO GO SO FAR WITH THE STOCK ENGINE @5400 RPM 2.0 3SFE. THE ACCELERATION IS PRACTICALLY THE SAME EXCEPT LIKE I MENTIONED IN THE PREVIOUS POST. HOWEVER ON THE DYNO IT HAS 23HP MORE TORQUE THAN WITH THE BUTTON ON THAN WITH IT OFF. IT BASICALLY CHANGES THE SHIFT POINTS TO MAXAMIZE THE TORQUE NOT THE ACCELERATION.
SORRY FOR THE CAPITAL LETTERS. MY CAPS LOCK KEY POPPED OFF WHEN I WAS CLEANING THE KEY BOARD WITH THE HAND HELD VACUME. GOT TO OPEN IT UP AND FIND IT

ummmm....three things....
1. why'd you get a custom tranny for the 3sfe? isn't that not worth the effort?
2. did you actually have your car on the dyno to compare the differences when you did this?
and
3. if your tranny's custom built with different shift points and different ranges, what was done when re-intergrating the power button may not apply to other camrys with stock trannys

well first the reason i got the 5 speed auto transmission is that i used to race on dirt trails with my other camry and the 5 speed transmission gives me a quicker accelration and is easier on the engine with all the hard braking and accelerating and it shifts practically like a 5 speed manual trans but i can have both hands on the wheel. i took it out of that one and put it in the one i normally drive when the trans went in that one. as far as how they made it i don't have the specs but pretty much they just took out the overdrive off capacity selection and just made it shift with the 5 gears in the normal mode and the power mode which just controls when it shifts.
as far as the dyno ques yes i did run it on a dyno. to make sure the trans ran within the engine's capacity and to see if the engine was too weak to use it. it worked out pretty good. can't redline it unless i max out 5th gear. in case you are wondering i have no governor. i bought an engine from japan directly to save the hassel of converting it over.
and yes it may not work the same as a stock trans, but in theory that is how it is supposed to work.
hope this helps
