Hi Everyone,
I have a 1992 Toyota Camry with only 60k miles on it. Engine compartment started making abnormal noise and was leaking coolant, I determined it to be the water pump. Figured might as well replace timing belt and other belts at the same time. I parked the car for a week, and then today was going to drive it over to a service garage.
Car went about 2-3 blocks, then lost power. Engine would just go put-put-put and not go anywhere. Was able to turn off car and it would crank over, but was hard to start and would only run at a few hundred RPM's. Had to tow the car back to my house, because it wouldn't drive anywhere. Could water pump have completely frozen up and timing belt was still intact trying to run around it? If belt snapped, car wouldn't run at all correct?
Also, this year camry is a freewheeling engine, so if belt was to break, damage would normally not occur to valves, correct?
Anyway, would just like to know a little bit more about whats wrong, before I go to the garage with it.
Thanks for anyones help,
Shane
