My geriatric 1993 Camry V6 LE wagon has been a great car, but reliability is now a concern....it's time to replace it. BUT NONE OF THE FIRST TIER JAPANESE MANUFACTURERS (Toyota, Lexus, Infiniti, Acura, Honda, even Nissan) offer upscale or even mainstream wagons any longer.
As a result, I'm going to the dark side....my next car will be manufactured in Germany. TOYOTA, ARE YOU LISTENING???? I would never have set foot in a German car showroom if you offered a Camry or Lexus wagon. (Matrix is a great entry level choice, but there are no move-up options.)
I had the same problem in Australia. We had the Avalon here ....but no wagon variant. No wagons unless you get the model designated here as the Klugger. Ended up buying a 120 series prado (landcuiser new in 2003). Its sat in the Shed for over 2 years and we are now going to get rid of it. Its just too much car to sit in the shed and never go-offroad.
I have 1 child...another on way, German Shepard dog and what seems to be the largest Pram in the Southern Hemisphere. Considering a twin-cab Pick/up ute.
Absolutely frustrating that no Wagon variant is offered. Almost enough to make me want a Ford..................No not that bad.
Toyota you will lose Family market share to others....do you care?. My Brand loyalty does have limits.
Yeah like ASG said the Mazda 6 is about it as far as wagons go. Obviously you can go with the Rav4it is not a wagon buyt a farily small SUV. Mazda also has the new MAzda5 I think they call it. I have seen one or two riding around town and then they had one in the local mall here. THey look ok for a wagon/van. I think I would rather go with one of the Maazda's than I would the MB or BMW. They are not as relaiable as TOyota, Nissan and Honda but I think they are better than the Germans. OR even VW dont even get started with them.

Highlander, if you replace the crappy OEM rubber they drive real nice. With a decent set of wheels you can kill the soccer mom look as well. Based on the Camry....
If I had to buy a Japanese Wagon, I would go with the Subaru Legacy GT. The new GTs pack a good power, Turbocharged Flat-4 rating at around 240hp I believe. I think the 2006 models will be offering a new model. Called the Legacy GT Spec-B, it rates around 276 HP turbocharged, 5-spd auto or manual. What other wagons offer manuals, besides the Mazda 6?
Other than that, most of Toyota's "good" wagons are sold only in Japan.
