no, NO ONE would ever reccomend spacers. only use them if you must, better yet get the wheel in a different offset.
hubcentric rings are a must, so are correct wheel nuts =)

Gen4 using 18x8 45 offset with 2-3mm spacers for the rears. The little weight thing on the back side of the wheel hits the struts for the rears
And there is lip scrubbing on big dips.
The front is fine.
And my car has been put on 50mm lowered springs. (only lowered it 30mm coz i think our *sporty* model was already lowered 20mms.)
nobody with 17" rims should have to worry about their offset unless it's a ridiculous number
anywhere from 35/38-42/50 is fine for the camry on conventionally designed rims

Most of your wheels are "cookie cutter" wheels. Meaning they have standard offsets that are universal. So, no worries. Most of the widths are 7.5 inches. Once you start going towards the higher end wheels, then wider widths and custom offsets come into play.
For instance: I have 18x8 51 offest in the front and 18x8 38+ offset. Why? To have that "staggered" look without going staggered. The rear is JUST right. I rub on the fender in the rear and about 1 mm from hitting the strut. With my coilovers ON (which I am doign this weekend) the linear springs that come with it will probably give me more room to play with. Realistically, I could run 9 inch wide wheels up front with the right offset. Rear is a different story with not much room to play. i think I can run a 8.5 inch in the rear with the right offset.
As my friend Antonio says "Offset is EVERYTHING".
