40+ offset

Hi guys, I recently purchased a set of used 17" rim from ebay for my gen 3.5. the spec are 17 X 8 with 40+ offset and 235/45/17 tires. The rear wheels are rubbing the structs, so I'm thinking of putting 1/2" spcaers to add some clerance. I know people don't receommend spacers but I have not other choice. My question now is it possible to put hub rings and spacers together?

Whoa whoa... 1/2 inch spacer IS TOO BIG. You don't need that much space. Get a smaller (maybe 5mm) spacer and then roll your fender. Your tire size is TOO BIG with that width and tire size. You should have checked here first before you bought those. Go get your fenders rolled. Good Luck.

The rims and tires came as a deal so not much of a choice... I'm new to alloy rims so I'm still try to figure everything out. I heard the term "rolling fender" all the time but don't know exactly what effect does it have. I searched the forumn before biuying and 17 X 7 with 215/45/17 tires seems to be the standard so I thought mine wheels might able to fit even though they are 1" bigger in width.

Yeah, it's strange but the front and rear suspension are spaced differently. The rear doesn't give much room to move around.

If you got to a body shop or a wheel/tire shop they may be able to help you "roll your fender" to give you more room.

i have a problem with the original statement.

i cant see how a 8" wide 17" rim with +40ET can hit the strut.

i can see the TYRES hitting the lower spring perch, but NOT the strut.

i maybe wrong though, but thats just what i can see with my 7.5" +40ET wheels, i have MASSIVE clearance to struts front and rear.

sorry for the confusion. actually you are right. the tires didn't hit the structs, it's more like the round plate thing on the struct assembly that holds the spring (may be the spring perch you are referring to). would change to 215/45/17 tires solve that problem?
