4th Generation Help! 90k service - do I really need the valves adjusted!?

I called my shop and was quoted $590 + tax (those are US dollars) for ALL the fluid to be changed, plugs replaced (how hard on a V6?), and a 'tune up' which according to my Hayes manual, would include the vales being adjusted.

This is a TOYOTA - why would I have to rip into the engine every 60k miles? $650 with tax is a lot of money for a car that is worth less than $5,000.

Real question - do I need the valves adjusted? I don't mean 'would it be nice to', or 'if I was rich', but is there really any need to do this?

Plugs on a v6 are alot more time consuming then a 4 cylinder... Back three plugs are a pain to get at.. I think they're trying to get your money with the valve adjustment.

Cool, thanks.

I will see about DIYing the plugs. Are they just hard to get at, or do I need to rip things apart?
