power expectancy

I have a 94 Camry LE (auto non v6), and im wondering what kinda power i can expect out of it. I know theres not much, since its the 4 banger version, but if i decide to keep this car longterm (and from seeing some of the cars on the forums i think i will) i'm going to do an engine swap.

be careful

I looked into that when I first got my camry... I was thinking about the 3SGTE swap. Two things stopped me... the price $$$$ :o and the fact that most insurance companies will not cover you. If you don't tell them that you did the swap that will void coverage. If they will cover you... which is unlikely (I made a few calls) the rates would be sky high.. and mine are already outrageous. But if your parents will pay for it or you've got some dough... good luck. Also someone told me in California you there is a law that you have to swap with an engine of the same year or newer... but that's just what I heard. I think it would be awesome if you could do it... wish I could. Good Luck.

long story short.....don't expect much at all....else you'll just have your dreams shattered....

here's the low down on the 4-banger....

at the wheels, bone stock, you can get around 100hp and 105-110 (maybe) ft/lb of torque....with some bolt ons- catback, intake, etc, you maybe able to gain 10 all around....maybe a bit more......

basically unless you get some sort of forced induction, your car'll never be as powerful or fast as the v6, which means, if you really wanted power or speed, you shoulda gotten the 6 in the first place....

and as for the engine swap....(and i think I speak for everybody here), we'll believe it when we see it....once you put your money where your mouth is, we'll give you props for the work.....

not trying to discourage you, but unless you're in some serious money, just make sure your car looks nice....they may be fast...but you'll be cruising in style.... 8)

good luck, and happy modding

other ideas

Hey why don't you look into the Burien turbo kit or I heard someone was developing a supercharger. That to me would be way more fun than an engine swap.

Oh and sorry about the parents bit... it's just that alot of people I know always seem to have parents who seem to pick up the tab. I sure wish I did. Have fun.

Yeah, i should have grabbed the v6 version, but this was an imaculate 94 camry with only 60k mile on it. It was driven less that 10k miles a year! Not to mention, the person i bought it from dosent have kids (my aunt), so the backseat has literally only been touched like...3 times.

Thanks for the help though. Its kind of a drag going from b18c powered CRX to this. But Im happy for now
