Recently I bought a new antenna mast, and replaced the old one.
It was working fine until just the other day when I had to adjust some wires on my terminals so It would fit under the cap thing that covers it. Stupid me, I didn't unhook the negative charge, and tried to move the wires on the positive. I saw some sparks fly, but I didn't mind it. Now when I switch to radio mode, the antenna won't go up. I've tried most things, like reset my deck, and switch it to the original OEM one.
Everything else works fine in the car, including my subs, and amp. But when I switch to radio mode, I don't hear anything going up anymore. Did I fry it? Also there seems to be a fuse at the top of my trunk roof in the middle of both my midrange speakers. I took it out to replace it, but never got the time to get one and put it back in.
Can anyone help me? I really want to use my antenna. =(
There may be 3 fused power wires going to the motor. Cig/Radio(20A), ECU-1G(15A) and dome (20A). Check all your fuses as I may not have the exact ones listed. I think there is one fuse box in the engine compartment and one in back of the drivers side ash tray.
Just picked up a used 1993 Toyota Camry V6 LE and it has a faulty power antenna as well...It powers up and down but on the UP, it makes a lot of noise and sounds as if it's never going to fully extend.
Curious what would be involved in getting a replacement...Do I simply get a replacement motor or motor with mast etc.?
Hey, thanks for the reply. I already checked all three of those fuses and replaced them. Does the fact that I have an aftermarket deck change anything? It did work before all this happened.
FCBarca: Yeah that was my problem before when it made noises. That means that your motor is fine but your mast is damaged or broken. Just order a new one online for around $16 like I did.
I would say yes, this could be your problem. When a Toyota radio is switched on. It completes a circuit in the radio that activates relays in the antenna by means of the wiring harness. The antenna then goes up. Did the new radio come with control for a power antenna? Check the installation manual.
Did you ever check the wires that you moved for fraying. The insulation may have been scraped off and you are shorting some wire to ground. If that is the case and you don't repair that you will simply blow any new fuse that you install. Check those wires and repair as necessary; then install a new fuse and try it.
