Drive Axle fell apart during install!

Installed new ball joint and removed 1 badly torn up 170,000+ Mile OE right side bolt on axle today, after doing the drivers side last week I had everything apart and installed in about an hour. Until....I noticed that the spindle wasnt all the way through the hub and the inner boot looked compressed, so I tried to extend it and it wouldnt budge..Not normal...so I unbolted it and one of the ball bearings was sitting in the inner axle grease cavity where the cv assembly bolts up, I pulled it out and noticed that there were only 4 balls the other had dropped down into the boot! I brought it in the garage and pulled out the cage to get the ball down in the boot, then I could not get the assembly back together without the bearings hanging up, after coating my hands in slippery CV lube, I said What the F... and hit advanced auto for another axle. There's looked to be of better quality than the napa axles, so I'll throw it in tommorow. At least I have new balljoints now on both sides and that passenger side OE axle looked(and sounded over the past few weeks) like it was going to come apart in drive very soon.
