3rd Generation Power windows not working

1993 4-dr

so i get in my car the other night to go out to a party and its a nice night so i thought i'd roll down my windows....only they didnt roll down, passenger and both rear windows, driver side still works fine. Is it safe to assume this is a blown fuse somewhere?? most likely one under the steering wheel?

and im sure i could figure out the answer but its very cold out now so im trying not to spend an hour in frigid temps looking for a possible solution

I don't actually know if there is a fuse for this, but you need to pull your door panel off and check the units to see if they burnt out or anything

make sure that the window lock is not on cuase that could also be your problem, if its on only the drivers side window will work none of the rest will work

^ lol...that's what it actually sounds like....or if the button isn't down, they may be something wrong with the master unit making locking them

I had my windows stuck down for the longest time. Completely undrivable come winter, and I couldn't take it into the city to get it fixed either.

^ if that happens, take your door apart and then manually move the window up the track, block it off, and then just don't use it until you get around to fixing it

well, i can relate, where the "hinge" is for the latch and lock, put a tiny flat blade screwdriver in (theres a bit of a grove on the bottom part(under handle)) and put some pressure down on that, then do the same on the top, just push up, and jiggle/ pull straight at yourself on the edege your working with. just be careful not to put tooo much pressure on those releases or it may crack.
oh and once the back is free, slide it back (towards the latch, hold the latch in the open position) and it should come right out...once you get it out its easy to see how it works, for future reference.
good luck

^ take it apart and see if it's fixable first

sometimes it can just be oxidation on the contacts and can be cleaned off

what happened with mine was a bit weirder- the window would only work when I pulled up on the tab REALLY hard, so after I took the unit apart, I cut off the little tabs on the back of the driver's window switch (when you take it apart and look at it, you'll see what I mean) so that there can be better contact, and now it works like it always has

and if you just want to get a new one, go on ebay and you can find new ones for pretty cheap actually- it's just unfortunate that they won't ship to canada for us canadians

Hey guys/gals,

Sorry for bringing up a dead thread...

Eye8pussies - Do you remember how to take off the cover off the switches?? I have this same problem where i have to pull really hard on the driver's side window switch for it to go up, and just recently had it stop being able to go down. I know it still wants to go up because I can see my gauge cluster lites dim a tiny bit. (no dimming when it is switched to go "down") I took it out tonite and i wasnt too sure how to disassemble it to clean the contacts..I saw some screws and tabs that I tried to undo, but no luck..Does the Covering just snap off?? I'm not too mechanical and I have a tendency to break things by accident when I'm trying to fix them lol..Thanks for any help you can provide...
