Just Thinking About Engine Swaps..

I've been just wondering these last few days, upon stumbling on a Japanese car site. There are many, many toyota engine that never even make it across the Pacific, like the 1JZ. Would that actually fit in a Camry? Or a 4A-Ge(FWD Corrolla), 2ZZ-Ge (Celica GTS), 1G-Ge (? Or a Nice 1G-Fe (IS200). I know that my Camry has lots of space for a bigger engine. I'm not expecting to put something massive like a 2JZ-GTE or anything like that, but there are sane swaps that will increase horsepower and torque. I was wondering if anyone else was thinking like I was and could tell me that I'm not insane. 3S-GTE sounds like a great swap and all..but those engines are kinda rare now that the MR2 is discontinued. Well it was just a thought..

no RWD Engine will fit into your Camry...

if you're looking into a swap, the 3S-GTE is your best bet, just ask The Wraith...

You can pretty much fit any engine into any car...
IF YOU HAVE MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF MONEY...
that cant be stressed out enough...

just because two engines are both 4 cyl. doesnt mean they can be swapped left and right, one may be for a RWD drive car, the other for front wheel drive car, one can be 1.4 liters, the other may be 2.4, one may be for a right hand drive, the other for a left hand drive, etc...

anyway, what Camry do you have..?
engine..?
year..?
if you provide this info, you may get more help...

a 1jz-gte is a smaller displacement 2jz-gte its the same size as the 2jz-gte... Its just 0.5liters smaller... There are a bunch of mr2 clips laying around... The only question is are you willing to pay for it...

So is it better to use the mr2 than the celica gt4 to get the 3s-gte from?

i know both have the 3s-gte, but i was talking about engine mounting points etc, that sort of thing. i would have thought that since the mr2 is mid engine mounted it would be harder/more time consuming to put in, but then again maybe that sort of stuff wouldn't matter as everything (beside the base engine) would have to be custom-i don't know?

It wouldnt matter if you have a 3rd Gen ... Your pretty much screwed because none of the engine mounts fits... If you have a 2nd Gen then the All Track would be the way to go because the Camry and the Celica have very similiar sub-frames...

hey cool i got Gen 2! i was just thinking about it on a hypothetical level. no way i got the cash atm for that kind of swap. hey Wraith-do u think it would be better to swap in a 3s-ge and then get exhaust manifold, turbo etc off 3s-gte to turbo it, or just go straight for the 3s-gte?

Camry=pain in the a**

Take it from me and Wraith and anyone who has attempted a swap. Even the 3sgte is a royal pain to swap and thats the easiest swap to go for, take it from me who is up to his neck in wiring and motor mounts every day. But its your call if your dedicated like any of us who have done it its all about the camry and its all worth it to waste a honda. But like they said its all about your budget and what its worth to you.
