KYB GR-2 struts long term?

Those who own the KYB GR2 struts, how do you like them? Are they wearing well?

4th Generation

I am about a month into using them along with my Tein H. tech springs.

So far so good. The ride is much more responsive, even compared to brand new oem struts and springs. Overall it isnt as soft as stock but its not by anymeans rock hard. I think they've made my car safer.

The thing is that those KYB's are OEM replacments. Honestly, they don't offer THAT much of a performance feeling. I've had them and they're pretty aweful when it comes to performance. If you can, go tokico because those are made for performance.

^ I actually have to disagree with that a bit

it will also come down to what kind of springs you use as well

yes- the kybs are softer than the tokicos, but I personally REALLY do not like the tokico ride

and performance-wise- the kybs are fine for any and all street applications
until you either hit a skid pad or the track, it won't make a difference

I've hit some decent bumps at 190+km/h and I had no "floaty feeling"- basically, the rebound rate is still stiff enough to make sure the wheels stick to the ground

but I say this while having eibach springs, which are generally stiffer than the other ones available for the gen3

and I've had mine for 3 years now, and even after hitting an island where I dented 4 rims and blew two tires, they're still holding up fine

but by the same token, if you don't mind a stiff ride and want the most performance available, tokicos ARE the way to go- or better yet, the koni reds if you can find them still

Well, it might be the fact that I have crappy sprint springs too.

Gen5 How is the ride affected?

The ride is the main concern, other than longevity. Our Gen5 Camry is way too soft and will bounce twice when pressing on either front or rear. I would love a more firm ride, but not one that will jiggle a lot. Do you feel that KYB has valved the GR2s properly for the Camry? Wife wants to keep a smooth ride.

I think you're pretty much limited to either KYB or Tokico.

I dunno about you, but my Gen 5 never bounced when I pushed down on it when I had stock suspension, even with all my force, It would just come right back to normal position. Now that I've got Tein springs, I can barely even push it down.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

Tokico doesn't make a Gen 5 application. The only choices for Gen 5 is KYB GR2 and Monroe Sensa-Tracs

and yes...yes I did....going about 60kph or so....it was the most painful thing I've ever done to my car- but it was good that my rims were dented and my tires blew to absorb the impact, otherwise the suspension and frame would have taken the force
