A functional spoiler

Has anyone ever thought of mounting/welding a downforce-creating wing on the front lower crossmember?

One of my friends had a Chevy Cavalier wiith an under the car wing. He told me that at about 70-80mph he would suddenly gain traction at the front end, enabling him to change lanes and corner a whole lot more easily.

I was just thinking that someone with the metal-working knowledge and tools (unfortunately, not me  ) might be able to fabricate a wing that could be welded to the lower crossmember.

Thanks, in advance, for any responses.

That sounds fishy. Unless his cavalier is as low as a Ferrari 360 that front spolier won't do a thing. Plus a front spolier is not the first thing that you want when you're looking for high speed stability.

I don't think you'll find anything useful unless you or the shop is willing to wind tunnel your car.

That front spoiler will push more air under the car and that is not what you want to do. Ever watch a high speed boat race and you see what happens when the lose it. Well you hit a big bump with that spoiler at high speeds and ur traction is gone and so is control of your car. Spoilers work actually better for rear wheel drive cars cause they push the back end of the car down to give more traction to the rear wheels. Front wheel drive cars use the spoilers to push down the back to keep the rear stable. If u notice one body kits they call the front skirt an air damn because it prevents air from passing to get underneath a car. That is also the reason why they lower cars to stop air from going underneath. The object it to keep a high air flow, high pressure on top of the car and low air flow and low pressure under the car to keep it planted to the ground.

people please correct me if i'm wrong

yeah im pretty sure that there is no such thing as a fuctional spoiler for any camry. rear wings only help rear wheel drive cars. and im sure that there are no body kits or front air dams that were tunel tested. on tunnel tested wings and body kits like the ones mugen makes are really funtional the mugen rsx body kit cost over 3 g's camry body kits just look nice

uhh....

I'm pretty sure that a rear spoiler is functional when it's as big as a Supra one AND you're going triple digits speed. Otherwise, most spoilers are done for aesthetics.

Rear wings would help front wheel drive cars too at high speeds, not just rear wheel drive. It creates downforce to keep the car planted to the ground, not the drive wheels. When you're going that fast, you'd want ALL your wheels to remain on the ground.
