dont mind the filename, the tranny is actually an E-153, my dad thought it would be funny to call it a 4L60 which is a GM automatic.
these are from my "rebuild gone bad" I rebuilt my original motor and ended up blowing it when a rod bolt broke on the break-in. Just another chapter in my long year of bad luck. I guess thats what happens when you try to get out the cheap way and reuse old parts. This is why i decided to get a brand new bottom end instead of rebuilding another one.
Hopefully 2003 will be more kind to me. I also plan to slow down the modding of my Camry and focus on another 1mz project, code named "1MZ MR2"
That gummed up motor is disgusting! I never understood why ppl neglected to change their oil
Hey, how many miles on your first engine before it commited suicide?
Keep us updated.
I know right! They mustve never changed the oil!! :
I had 60k miles on my original engine before i got caught in a monsoon and it inhaled some water. The only damage was a bent rod but instead of just fixing that one, i took the whole thing apart and rebuilt it. Somehow a rod bolt broke on the break in, i mean it ran for 30 seconds before exploding into a hundred pieces.
Im just waiting for my heads to get back so i can get it together again with the new bottom end.
I was wondering how hard it was to get your heads of the car. I understand that it may have been a little easier for you because the engine is out of the car but, was it a somewhat diffacult project. I am considering pnp mine that is why i ask.
Nice pictures, very informative.. It's awsome that you actually have the luxury take your engine out of the car and put back together with new parts.. I would love to do that, but I'd have to buy my own house first.. But that will happen in the new future..
Keep up the good work, very nice pictures and great information..

Its a little more time consuming since you have to remove the cams but overall its pretty easy. You could do it with the engine in the car. I will probably do that since i have one set of heads getting worked and they wont be ready for a while. Im just going to put a plain set on for now to get the car on the road. So i will be doing a swap with the engine in the car. Just make sure you got a good torque wrench and a 12mm star pattern socket since a regular 12mm socket wont work.
Actually that engine doesn't look too bad compared to what we get around here. I mean most of the sludge motors we get around are aboaut 2-3 inches thick of sludge in the motor. Which is from like 60K of no oil changing and what pisses me off is Toyota pays for a new engine and us techs get screwed for time. I don't understand why people don't just change there oil.
I got it for $1950 brand new. I was going to build the bottom end but i wanted a warranty and the piece of mind for this car. Im going to be building my other 1MZ-FE and putting it into another car just to mess with.

Thats sucks, good thing is there are a lot of sludged up blocks out there that could be used for projects if they dont get junked. Although i bet some of them would be more trouble than they are worth. This engine had 28k miles on it and im guessing it saw one oil change if that. 60k miles is just INSANE. I change my oil way before im supposed to and you saw how clean the head was
Yeah a lot of those engines end up being crap even the block but the ones that are good that I get I am going to build up the engines and either use them or sell them. I am the same way as you for oil changes I usually change at 2500 miles.
