4th Generation RIPP mods headers - issue

for those who participated in last year's group buy (during March '05 i believe)...

has anyone every tried hooking up the headers using the stock cat converter? if so, is your CEL on or off? and do you pass smog (i'm in California)? this applies to a gen4.5, (00 or 01) 4cyl.

ANY help is appreciated, i never found a straight-forward answer while searching. thanks guys

Not sure what CEL is..... But I had mine installed and passed my emmisions perfectly. I was worried at first, but when I had them done, there were no problems. I have a 97 camey 4cyl.

If you retain the converter, either factory or aftermarket, you should pass an emissions test with a header, no problem.
However, in Cali, you would not likely pass a visual inspection without a CARB Exemption number for the header, and if the company never applied for one, you are out of luck.

BTW - CEL = Check Engine Light.

In a previous post, "prince charming" stated his CEL was on, and he had no converter. The CEL was (most likely) on b/c the converter was missing & the O2 sensor was reading out of spec.

wow, that's amazing. sounds like i'm not the only one with the CEL still on then. what kinda cat are you using...stock or aftermarket?

a month ago, my O2 sensor went bad. how did i know? my cat started making weird noises; as if something was rattling. that whole fix cost me $400 or so ($100 for ONE sensor ). just giving you a heads up prnc_chrmng
