4th Generation Adjusrtment shift cables Manual 4 cyl

Ever since new my 97 LE 4 cyl 5 spd manual has been trouble picking reverse . Dealer says nothing wrong( BS!) Anyone know the set up technique to improve shifting to reverse? Chilton manual is useless -- "installation of cables --"Reverse of removal"" I assume one of the cables has to pull more or push more ??
Incidentally this winter synthetic oil in Tranny has helped cold weather shifting tremendously

its not the cables, reverse is pesky in all manual trannys because its not always engaged and changing gears just does up the synchro. forward gears are bevel cut (at an angle like ///////////) and are always engaged. changing gears engages a mini-clutch type device to match speeds then the teeth engage the shaft to the spinning gear. reverese is straight cut gear (like |||||||||||||) that actually engages and disengages when you change gears. theres absolutely nothing you can do about that aside from getting an automatic. thats also why its a bad idea to engage reverse while the car is moving, esp forward. for the basics, read www.howstuffworks.com 's article on manual trannys

I know about synchros! The problem persists in spite of Moving a bit in forward -to better line up the straight gears. I still think cable adjustment could help

My car does the same thing, only thing that I've found that solves it is to take my foot off of the clutch pedal, and try again. I don't think that theres anything wrong, it's just kinda annoying.
