3rd Generation normal operating temp?

I know its kinda vague but my 95 camry has been sick lately. The temp gauge only goes about 3 mm below the middle point (hard to tell since there aren't any ticks). I haven't really looked at my car much such its the beater but its ridiculous when i only get 21 mpg with city/highway mixed driving. I did the full tune-up: cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter. Haven't touched the o2 sensor yet. Is my thermostat bad or is that normal operating time?

I am wondering about the very same thing. I got 20 MPG with mostly in city but also some highway. '92, 4 cyc, 148k miles. Everything seems to be fine, but MPG is bad.

my 1MZ_FE used to run lilke you said, alittle below the middle line but now it runs at exactly the middle. I have a coolant tester siting aroung so one day i tested the coolant and it turned out to be below the recomended line. So i hav to change my coolant soon, hope fully it will drop the temp a bit. oh and sometimes the cooler than engine runs the better (only by a few degrees)

souns like normal operating temp to me. As for fuel mileage if you go to www.fueleconomy.gov and look your car up it says you should get about 21mpg city and 28mpg hwy. Average of 24mpg. These are all estimates. since the way they rate thwm is very outdated. in the next few years they are going to adjust the way they come up with fuel economy numbers to better show real life driving habits. I say that to say that as your car gets older it is very possible that you willnot get the same mileage as it did when it was new. Youcan do little things like check your air pressure and make sure you do your normal maintenance when it needs it to get the most you can out of it.
