Question On 1st to 2nd shift, popping noise

This is my first post and first Toyota so I guess they go hand in hand. I'm having some trouble that I do not think is normal (like the dealership says).

When I first start my car, there is a distinctive popping noise right before the auto transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd. This pop is followed by a fluttering/vibration from the right front of the car. Takes all of 3 seconds to do the entire thing. After the initial pop and flutter noise, the car never does it again. Shows no ill effects while driving.

If I drive for 4 hours straight or 10 minutes does not matter, if I park the car and get back in it after 5 minutes, the same popping/fluttering noise comes back only once, on the 1st to 2nd shift.

The car has been doing it a few months. I was trying to wait it out to see if it was just new car break-in. Took it to the dealership and they said they hear the noise I'm talking about and its the ABS doing a self-test and pushing fluid to all the brakes. Seemed like a bogus answer to me. Especially when the car did not make this noise for the first several thousand miles.

Any helps, suggestions, or comments are welcomed.

Thanks

You don't show the year or the mileage on this car. If it is brand new and/or is still under warranty, and you believe this answer is bogus (It does sound like it to me too), then you have 3 choices. First, you can ask the dealer why it didn't do this during the first few thousand miles of the car's life as you stated above. Second, if he still states "they all do that, you just didn't notice it before", then you can ask to test drive another car of the same year and engine to see if it makes the same noise. Third, if you still don't get any satisfaction, you can call Toyota corporate at 800-331-4331 and talk to Customer Service about the problem.

Good luck.

And if one dealer makes it seem bogus, try another one. it says you live in florida and i'm more than positive that there are a number of toyota dealers there.

Thanks for the responses. The car is a 2005 with less than 14,000 miles on it. I guess I started notices the noise about 4,000 miles ago. It has not gotten any worse, but not any better either. I'm thinking of taking it to another dealership.
