Burn-out tailight light came on but...

Today the yellow light that tells you that there is a tail light that is bad went on first my dad told me it came on when he move the car then when i went to see it the light came on after a few times of pressing the pedal but i checked the lights while i had something to hold the pedal but when i went back to look at them none of them were had went out not even the center one so i turned off the car and turned it back on and pressed the pedal several times but it never came back on. could it be the brake swich under the dash? it more than likely is my fault it came on because when i went to pick up my mom from work i got so bored waiting for her out side because she had to stay about 30 minutes for over time and i din't know so i strated to presss the pedal many times. i thugth that i wonln't cause any damage because the pedal was hard and din't go down almost anything. so i guess i keep an eye for it tomorrow to see if it comes back on.

Wierd, prolly a bad connection or the bulb shifted and lost contact for a sec or loose connection somewhere.

If it doesn't happen again and you've checked all the lights, including turn the switch to first click, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

If you press the brake a few times and it becomes difficult to press, you just aren't getting power assist. There's still enough assist after the car is shut off for 2 or 3 press of the brake. If your car didn't have power brakes, it would feel really stiff like you described. It shouldn't have harmed anything.

turn your lights on without stepping n the brakes and see if the light comes on. If it does then one of the parking/driving lights is out. You could also have a bulb that is on its way out and may have caused a spike that the malfuncion indicator picked up. I have seen bulbs burn out and then they get bumped somehow and will basically reweld the filament back together and work for many more months like that.

3rd brake light causes a lot of problems on these cars I believe. Check to see if the contacts are burnt or coroded. Can be very intermittant.

You should be able to press the brake pedal from now till doomsday and nothing would be damaged. Its designed to take it.
should be simple to fix its a simple circuit involved. Get a volt ommeter and set it to read DC, remove a taillight socket and pop out bulb. Have somebody mash the pedal and read for voltage - stick the red probe on the shiny part in center and the black along the inside of the brass holder, you might have to try several spots but you oughta get areading.
if you dont the switch (the one activated by the brake pedal ) may need replacing or just, adjustment. (I had to adjust mine on my nissan hardbody today, the nut was loose whicxh is why this post caught my eye).

It also comes on when a bulb is "about to" blow. I had the problem too. Light came on, and no burnt out lights. 1 week later, a light went out :P.

Another very comon problem with Camrys is the wiring harness that runs along the left (drivers side) trunk hingge arm. The wires will break inside the wire loom. All the lights on the trunk it self may still work though. This is because the current is feeding back through other circuits. Anyways lift the trunk and follow this harness till it meets the carpet trim peice, open up the loom and fix the wires. When I do this repair I always fix any wires that arnt broken yet also. I also add about 5-6 inches of wire to the harness so it will flex easier.
Good luck

I'll chect that too. which end are you talking about though the end that goes to the trunk or the end that goes inside the trunk?

I have exactly the same problem. Its bugging me like a mofo. The stupid light comes on the dash showing the tail lights is out and sometimes all the tail lights work including the middle one and the high one and sometimes my left tail light is out. Then when I open the trunk and turn the car off and then back on...the light on the dash is gone!
