Oil Filter Dump....

I'm sure somebody can help me out here.....When changing the oil and filter on my 94 V6 (I think it's 1Mzfe), how do I avoid the oil dumping out of the filter as I unscrew it from the engine? Is there a trick other than stuffing a rag underneath it?

Take a Phillips screwdriver and tap a hole in the top of the filter
and wait a couple of minutes, works for me.

you can try waht Zandro said or sometimes you can just loosen it slightly and it will drain somwhat before removing it all the way. there are check valves in the filter to help prevent the oil from running out while sitting. This is to help keep oin in the filter so when you start it there is already oil in it. It is a PITA as far as clean up is concerned but better than not having any oil flow on start up.

or have catch pan under it, and drive screwdriver all the way through. top hole breathes, while bottom drains. -posibility.

Been there, done that.
Nothing I know of works.
Just a pan below and rags.

A replacement head pipe doesn't stink as long as the stock unit does.

I just spray mine with brake clean after removing the filter. It is a mess, but brake clean usually washes it away.

See my signature for my car.

Even though I have a 5S-FE, I have the same problem.

I loosen the filter a bit, then tap it with a plastic mallet.

Using this method, I make a mess only about 1/3 of the time.

Go figure!
