Grill Air Intake

My idea- Open up the grill completely, somehow make a sort of box, and have that going into the stock intake box or run it all the way to the manifold.
My questions- Has anyone done this before? What were the results? Would this cause any problems with the radiator getting less air? Any know of any other problems doing this?
Thanks, matt

They make those, it looks like a fake intercooler but it's really a metal air filter at the front of the car. The problem with that is that they get dirty extremely fast. Like this:

he meant to make a ram-esque intake if you werent reading, the same thing Mugen and Spoon do for their factory tuned cars. Its the only way a intake will make at least some kind of good power, thats when air is forcefully fed into the intake tract (short rams and cold air intakes do not do this because the filters are left 'open', whereas a ram air intake will only have one opening, and thats facing positive pressure).

if you can fabricate something like that and deal with possible water problem, then it would be true ram air and quite effective

That is exactly my idea, I don't think short rams and CAI's work as well as they could, and I think this will work much better. I basically got the idea while deciding I was going to put mesh in my grill, and then I was working on a Grand Prix with ram air, and I'm like wow, what a great idea. So, it's not really original or anything.

This is especially good for turbocharged cars. A lot of times they have a opening in the headlight that allow the air to be "rammed" the intake.

You can either design a heat shield for your current intake or you can run a hose from behind your front grill and route it to your intake or your factory box. I can't remember what the layout looks like but I'm sure if there's room then you can do it.
