Gen5 Factory RS3200 Plus Alarm - Worth It?

For some reason I thought all 2005 Camrys had an engine immobilizer, but it looks like I was mistaken - the Corolla does, which is the other car I was looking at. So.. I had already purchased my insurance policy through Geico and listed an engine immobilizer as installed but now I know it doesn't have one [I got something like $7 off the policy] - they told me if I get it installed within 30 days it's not a problem.

I *need* something but I'd like it to integrate with the factory remote/keyless entry system. When my aunt was looking for an alarm for her '04 Accord, they couldn't integrate it with the factory remote [it's built into her key] so she coughed up the $300 to get it installed at Honda.

Any suggestions? I'm seriously considering the RS3200+ factory system. I think one place I called [for my aunt's car] said it would be totally aftermarket..or that they MIGHT be able to use the factory remote. Then the other place I called has a contract with all the dealers around here (they don't usually do stuff for just people walking in like myself) so they can't install factory alarms due to that - which makes sense, they are subcontracted out daily to install "factory" systems.

Anyway, I am LOVING my '05 Camry and will post a thread later once I get it washed (it just rained ) and everything. It's an amazing car and I expect it to last me at least 15 years - my mom's '95 Camry is still kicking! In fact, its 1MZ-FE is still a little smoother and quieter than my I4..which I found quite interesting. Nothing can beat Toyota's line of V6 engines. I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of refinement for better fuel economy though

Thanks everyone!

All the cars on the Bossier dealer in TX come with the silencer. It is a little key fob thing that you insert into a slot at the bottom of your dash. When it is removed, the engine wont start. I believe that you get a discount on your policy.

Yeah, a Civic I looked at had that.. My other aunt has one in her car, and after a few weeks she ended up just leaving the chip/card thing in the car all the time. Ah well..guess I'll have to get something installed this weekend.

Thats what I do. The only thing that I found out that all silencer chips work in all cars.

You're joking right? That's crazy! Sheesh..totally defeats the purpose of it.

Do you know if installing an aftermarket alarm voids any kind of warranty from Toyota?

I dont think so. Mine came from the dealer and I've had it to other dealers for warrenty service. I don't know how wide spread the problem, but the same chip started our Sienna, Solora, Tundra and Camry.

No.

Just make sure to have it installed by a reputable shop. Good shops should have lifetime warranty on the install.

Personally I'd look into a Viper, Hornet, or Python (their all made by DEI (directed electronics inc)). I use to work as an installer (car stereos and alarms).
