?s For those who lower their cars or put bigger wheels on
Just wondering if any of you with 3rd gen camry experience tire rubbing the back shock 0r front fenders when puting on bigger tires size and lowering the car
i have lower my car 1.3 (front only) with sprint spring also have four set of 17" rims with 215/50/r17 tires. however the car runs fine if theres only 1 one person driving it. but once you have 4 people 2 front and 2 back, the tires start rubbing (front rubbing fenders, while back against the shock, when u went of bumps or on bad roads.
I don't know why this happened, because i used to have 215/45/17 on before and didnt exeprence any trouble at all. Maybe my tires are to wide, big, or else my shocks and struts are dead, but i dont know. also i just notice that the shocks on camrys sit right on top of the rear tires. which only leave about an inch between it if you put bigger tires/rims on.
Any suggestion how i can fix this?, should i goe back with 215/45/17, replace the rear struts/spings or put back the stock tires.
^ thats pretty shitty. Only reason the back is harder is 2 reasons. 1) you have to take out the backseat (good to learn on these cars anyways) 2) rear links, so 1 extra bolt per side. tell them to stop being lazy and do it.
get the 215/45's not the 50's, its too large. i have had intrax springs, 215/45/17 tires and 5 people in the car (mind you thats well over 1k lbs extra [big people] and a 150lbs system. no rubbing whatsoever.
I Have Tenzo Springs On Mine With Stock Shock And Its Dropped 2 Inches
Ive Have 5 People In Car With 5 Snowboards On Roof, The Spare, A Sub And Misc Items In Trunk. Although There Was No Gap Left On The Rear(meaning I Couldnt Stick Any Fingers In Between) I Was Still Able To Cruise At 80 Mph On The Highway And Go Through Speed Bumps With Easy
I Have 18 Inch Rims
The Size Is 225/40/18
But Yea Lowering Just The Back Is Not God Because Your Car Is Not Balanced Right Now
If Your Are Experiencing Trouble Bring It Back To Stock Or Lower The Rear
P.s My Shocks Make A Weird Noise Like A Squal Sound When I Go Over A Bump
Blown??? Lol
It depends on your wheel offset too. That will tell you most likely where it is going to rub. Also remember that all tires are not exactly the same size. Double check on the tire companies web site for the EXACT dimensions of their tires.
215/45 is undersized- you want 215/50, which you already have
215/45 is just easier because there are more tires available in that size, that's why more shops recommend it- but it's slightly undersized, and you get more wheel gap

my friend who work at auto shop put it on for me..and he said its too hard to put the rear on so, just the front for now.
Yeah, thats pretty ridiculous. Your friend is liar. In fact, I found that lowering my rear was easier than my front. I spent less time on each of the rears than on each of the fronts. I wouldn't trust a mechanic that says that the "rears are too hard to lower."

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.
check whats running at the rear, you CANNOT in anyway rub the shock at a lower hight then at standard, the whole strut assembly moves relative with the wheel. if its not rubbing when its got no weight on it it wont rub.
im guessing that youre rubbing the inndr plastic wheel well guards if youre rubbing the outer lip of your front guards. i have 7.5" wheels with +38 offset and 225 section tyres with no rubbing all the way to the bump stop or even at full lock.

Offset and Width are the problem, not the springs or struts. I had a problem like that too. Just roll the fender or cut the fender.
