New antenna for the Coupe

I just purchased this antenna for the coupe. Any of you guys/gals have one of these? Kinda looks like the antenna on the S2000. I'm just getting tired of repairing the OEM power antenna every couple of weeks.

3rd Generation Well, the price is right.

I just purchased and installed a "direct replacement" antenna from Antenna X. Unfortunately the unit itself was a bit different in size and shape, so I had to use tie straps to mount the unit. It works, but I'm not happy with the install (had to get rid of the OEM rubber grommets too).

I don't necessarily like the look of that EuroStyle antenna, but was honestly wishing I had purchased something like that-but shorter-when dealing with the electric ant. install. Would have saved me some money.

It looks like your car is the same color as mine, but mine is a 4 door 93 LE with 215K, purchased off ebay recently.

Good luck with the install.

Yours keeps breaking on you every couple of weeks? There's something else wrong with your electricals or maybe there's water leakage into the unit. I'm still running off my factory antenna and it's been nearly 12 years.

Thanks for the reply. Your right! I didn't pay much for the antenna 19.95 shipped. So WTF
I just don't like the OEM antenna up 3 ft in the air all the time. Have any pics of yours?

Nice find on the 93. Looks nice for the age and mileage! The color is "Magenta". One more question, where did you need to use the twist ties?

Here's the deal on the antenna...It was broken when I found the car, cable broken inside the motor. I could hear the motor turning but the antenna didn't move. I bought a new mast and cable off ebay, and had it installed by my regular mechanic.(I watched and helped by turning the radio on and off) Well it worked for about a month and stopped again.

This time tho I didn't hear the motor, I removed the antenna, cable and mast and the motor ran fine. So fucked around with it, disassembly and reassembly, seemed like 10 x's while my wife turned the radio on and off. The cable would go in maybe a 1/2 a cycle then stop. When I was ready to give up, I got it working. It lasted a couple of weeks. and stopped again (no motor sound). No moisture seen!

Well I did all the things as above again, and still couldn't get it to go more than 1/2 cycle, seems its jamming, I tried more white lube, didn't work, the motor go's full cycle without the cable in it. (I'm a big guy and the trunk is not a comfortable place to work in), so I said fuck it and put it all back together and unpluged the power from it and left it up!

I hate the way it looks "up", I guess I'm anal, wife doesn't understand why it bothers me, and doesn't want me to spend alot of money fixing it. So thats the reason for the 20 buck, shorter non-power replacement. I'm worried that I may be going from bad to worse tho

Would anyone happen to know what the stealership OEM replacement motor and mast may cost? (ball park estimate)

My previous 3.5 LE antenna (daughters now) has worked 10 yrs now without a problem!

Thanks for the reply! any help is appreciated!

Since the bolt/screw holes didn't line up with the frame holes, I just tie strapped the mast/motor to the frame. I didn't connect the rubber drain hose either, since I sawed off the nipple in an attempt to get the unit bolted up to the original mounting hardware.

I don't have a dig. camera, so no pics. It looks similar to an OEM, but upon close inspection a fellow owner would spot the difference.

Ok, got it installed, super easy! AntennaX included extra connectors, instructions, and even an extra antenna thats a little taller with a slightly different base and stiffer! (I put the more flexable one on)

So far I the radio reception is the same, maybe better! Its definitely isn't a S2000 antenna tho! ....but for 20 bucks WTF

I guess it looks OK for now! What do you guys/gals think?

Yea, I guess I've been a car guy alittle longer. ..........

I didn't hate the 3ft stocker! I just didn't marry a "car gal".....she doesn't understand me buying things for the cars/truck....unless it "on sale"

Hey man, same antenna problems with my 95 Coupe. Took it apart and replaced the cable, still didn't work right. So I disconnected the power and left the 3 ft stick up in the air. Looking for a used OEM replacement, I refuse to spend $200 or whatever a new OEM unit costs.

But you introduce an interesting alternative with that whip unit......

Check out AntennaX.com...........The cheapest site I found for an OEM unit, including the mast, was ToyotaPartscheap.com. (they say they only sell OEM parts) They were asking 124 and some change, but shipping was high!

But like I said for 20 bucks, It'll do for now! I have to get use to the way it looks!!
