power window regulator removal

My drivers side power window is stuck all the way up. It makes no
sound. All other windows work fine. If I buy a combo window motor
regulator from the net- autozone parts man says they just sell motor
-how do I get the old one out?. I got the door panel off, but cannot
see the motor. If I remove all bolts/nuts I am afraid window will crash
down. Is there some technique to this since I cannot see connections.
How can plastic regulator piece be aligned / adjusted with window if
not visible. Doesn't it need to fit perfectly . I cannot afford dealer
prices. I left it open in the rain. Maybe that drowned the motor. ?
Anyone tackle this before. Thanks for advice

well you would probabyl be better off to jsut replace the entire motor and regualtor assembly as one. IF it is stuck in the up p[osition, once you get the door panel off you should see a cable wthat runs vertical inthe door. Youcan cut that cable and it will allow the window to drop down. Once the window drops down you will see two bolts that hold the window to the actual regualtor assembly. Remove those two bolts and then you can remove the window from the door. The window comes out the top of the door. SO pull the window up and tilt it towards the front of the car slightly and you should be abel to get it out. Once you have the window out the motor assembly is bolted to the door about halfway down the door inthe middle. there should be three or four bolts that hold it in place. Remove these bolts and unplug the wire connectro from the motor. Now you can remove the entire assmebly as one piece. Reassembly is pretty much the exact opposite. If I could I would take pictures but I am not going out int he 20 degree weather and pulling my door panle off right now. If you ahve any other questions ask away. If you have a way to post pictures take some pictures and I will try to point the stuff out to you. Or you amy be able to search and find a DIY that someone else has posted.

win motor regulator

Sounds doable even for one not too handy with cars. However if cutting the cable how will it be reattached. I don't see cables with the motor assambly. Is the cable under high stress ?SOthe window is reimserted after the new assembly is put in and then window cabled back in last?

Regulator

I replaced mine a month ago. My window was also stuck all the way up. I bought a complete regulator/track assembly off ebay for 40.00! You will be able to pull the window down engough to expose the bolts, just grab the channels that ride in the rail and pull it down. It's an easy job.

Take a look at the picture of hte regualtor in this picture. ON the left hand side you see the cable on the top and bottom of the actual motor. The regualtor itself is the metal bar in the middle. You can cut the cable on either the top or the bottom. It doesnt matter about cutting it because youa re going to replace hte entire thing. You dont ahve to cut it if you dont want to. You can try to force it down enough to expose the bolts. It may be easier though to cut the cable. That is the way I used to do it when I was a Toyota mechanic.
