Water Pump Replacement
Last Friday, my gf had a problem with her 94 Camry: water pump "died." What I think happened is (as she told me) it was leaking fluid and making noise... Anyway, she took it to a mechanic, who had it towed somewhere else that could make the repair. Found out this morning that they couldn't get the car to crank, and that the water pump and timing belt needed to be replaced, and since the I4 is an inteference engine, some internal damage could have occurred.
First, the 4-cylinder Camry's are inteference, right? I think I remember reading that somewhere. Second, I know the water pump/timing belt should be changed together, and probably run around $400 or so. And I think I saw her car blow white smoke out of the exhaust last time I saw it... Anyway, anyone have some opinions on this? Of course I told her not to let them do anything that would cost her until she OK'ed it.
Thanks for your help!
