Where can I get the "rug" that goes under the hood?
I don't even know what to call it. But I guess you know what I mean, mine is all messed up with oil from when I blew my engine and it has pieces that are hanging. Now that I'm almost done with what I had in mind for my exterior, I want to throw a few things in the engine, but I wanna start with the basic stuff so that it looks clean at least.
i have a few laying around from all of my extra hoods it may be possible to roll one up and it could be fairly easy to ship, but it may not roll at all. if you might be interested i could go out to the shop and check it out for ya. i have two of 'em i think
probably to get one new i really think you could get on off ebay for like the 20 dollar range. does anyone know what the actual name of the rug is?
EDIT:
i think it may be called insulation

well.. when i got my replacement hood 2 years ago it didn't have one... so i guess it's safe? it just has some steam when it rains... if you don't expect your engine to go up in flames it should be alright?
The hood insulation is there for sound deadening, not safety, and not to extinguish fires. Its fine to remove it, but you may get a little additional noise from the engine.
BTW - I doubt you could ship one - they are usually "formed" and somewhat stiff, so you could not roll one up.
If you wanted to, you could get dynamat for underhood applications - which would look cool, and deaden sound.
Looking from the parts list, its part number 53341-33020 with a $196.46 US cost form the dealers. The name for it is 'Insulator' and it goes under the hood category.
in reference to whether or not it is safe to remove it, its an iffy subject and has been discussed some time ago. although no verdict was reached, it was said that without the insulator the hood becomes extremely hot. so hence, with it the temperature of the hood will be less and won't hurt the paint as much.
