You can use the TRD shortshifter for the gen4 camry/solara. It works with slight modification. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...
A short shifter will give you a smaller throw and a tighter more sporty feel. If you choose to shift at the same speed that you always have, a shortshfter will not cause any damage to your transmission. It only causes a problem if you try to force things (the same as if you had a normal shifter)
Your other option is to just cut the shaft and get an aftermarket universal shift knob. Your choice.
I actually have a shortshifter in my 2nd gen. Its for a late 80's Celica. Fun stuff...

So, you're saying that I can put that into my '92 V6 Sport Edition Camry ?

That IS interresting.. I already cut the shifter to have a 'short shifter' but I'd really like to have a QuickShifter..
What are the modifications to do to the 4th Gen Camry Quick Shifter Set to use it in a 3rd gen camry ?

yes mox... ask Luc or do a search for Lucs various posts on the subject of his TRD short shifter install on his Gen3.
basically the jist of it is you need the TRD Short Shifter and you need the Gen4/Solara shifter assembly (which costs approx the same as the TRD SS if you buy it new from the dealer)
good luck. but personally i would love the TWM one, for 4 reasons:
1) it doesnt come with an unnecessary TRD Shift knob, which i already have
2) TWM is in quebec, so much less stress and quick support
3) the TWM knobs are not only reduce the shifter throw, but are significantly shorter than stock, as opposed to the TRD SS which is only slightly shorter in height than the stock shifter.
4) the TWM SS is almost 1/2 the price of the TRD unit.
Are you sure about that??? Whose TMW? Got a website?
Hey guys... the website for TWM Performance is www.twmperformance.com 8) I have a shortshifter from them installed on my gen2 camry. They have responsive service, and a good product.
So for all you guys out there that want a shortshifter for your camry, go to them. Make sure to email them and let them know what you ordered and whether it worked.... I'm sure they would love to have other applications listed on their website. The only bad thing is that they keep raising their prices. They used to be $100, when I got mine it was $135, and now they aer listed at $155...
In conclusion: 90-93 Celica shortshifter works on gen3 camrys. 88-89 Celica shortshifter works on gen2 camrys. I can post pictures of my install when I get home if you guys are interested in seeing it...

If you guys can be certain that the TWM short shifter from the '90-'93 Celica will fit in the Gen3, then go for it!!! The TRD SS does work, but you will need the Gen4/Solara shifter assembly (at least for my '93 SE V6). However, the costs are high since a new TRD SS is about $150 USD and the assembly is another $150 USD. Another irony is that the Gen3 I4 OEM shifter and/or shifter assembly could be different compared to the V6.

that is true luc... the shifter assemblies for the gen3 92-92 are all metal and have shims... the 94-96 (all I4) assemblies have a metal bottom, and plastic upper portion. jeff has one of the I4 assemblies and he fit a TRD SS in it with some slight modification to the assembly with some washers and i *THINK* he has to modify the shifter itself if i remember.
I remembered Jeff's telling me that he had to add (or change) a pivot point on the TRD to make it work properly with the OEM shifter base, which was elevated with washers. The only reason why I got the Gen4/Solara shifter assembly is because there were deadbolts that pointed upwardly to secure the base down, whereas the I4's bolts were removable.
