How do i correct the timing?

I have a big problem that is almost impossible for me to fix. After changing the water pump a friend of mind told me that i have to mark all the timing spot before i take the timing belt out but i did not do that (so stupid of me) and now the camshaft and crankshaft are way off. i'm trying to turn the crankshaft so that cylinder1 is at TDC but after turning a full 360 degree it would not turn anymore. did the piston hit a valve?. It's my first time changing water pump and timing belt that's why i screwed up. please help. the engine is 1MZ-FE Engine 6 cylinder 1994 camry

search first, but the cams should have a stock(factory) mark on the inside top of the back timing belt cover and each cam gear should have a ball point pen size dot on them. also a compression testor is helpful, to find TDC. oh and i believe those engines are non-interfrerence(cant hit a valve), first get your cams to TDC, then work on getting the crank there. well, at this point a compression testor is necessary (any parts store should have one), also right behind your crank pully, above your crank timing sprocket you should be able to see where to line the sprocket up to on the block/oil pump case.
to make it easiest...get a haynes manual!
good luck!
