strut recall

Does anyone know the deal with the strut recall for the generation 4 models? Is it for real or is someone trying to blow smoke up my tailpipe?

I don't know about a recall, but I know the gen 4's have a front strut mount defect. I had to get mine replaced and it cost me $450+ to get it fixed at the dealer. :

If you have any experience, you could probably rent the tools and do it yourself for about $100-$200. It doesn't seem too complicated to replace, but then again I have never tried. Good luck either way.

There are no recalls, as the only one that I remembered was for a cruise control cable. The is a TSB for the strut mounts, which seemed to be redesigned slightly that caused a persistent knocking/rattling sound.

The problem with using aftermarket struts are not the struts themselves, it is still the strut mounts. Apparently, Toyota redesigned them for the early Gen4 era and didn't inform anyone. So companies like Bilstein, Tokico, etc. never accommodated the updated mounts, as they probably wouldn't spend more time and money to change a bit. So TRD had developed an isolator kit, which was basically just a thick rubber gasket, to fit inside the strut mounts. However, this kit has been discontinued, and the few that were lucky to get them had no more noises. Sometimes, tightening down the center strut nut will help a bit, but eventually it's not a long-term solution.

I had the isolator kit with my TRD struts and springs and now I hear a bit of a clunking noise when I turn the wheel or at low speed, not sure what it is. Is it possible that the rubber from the isolator kit worn off already?
