any ideas how to keep the engine bay cool?

I need to find a few ways to keep my engine cooler so I can possibly start some upgrades. I want to get an intake but I live in Texas and it is usually in the high 80's low 90's for the majority of the year.... gotta worry about detonation. I hear alot of people around here with short ram intakes have problems with that.
Someone suggested modifying my stock box... i'v seen boxes with with CAI attachment on integras. Gives it a sleeper look. Anyone have any info on that? I've also seen a few of you remove the lining on the inside of the hood. But from what I understand that's for sound deadening purposes and I like my car quit... doesn't interfere with my music.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

ryan

for intake-wise, you can always think about a real CAI that replaces the stock box, along with everything else, all the way down into the bumper...try using the biggest con4e filter that you can find to get more air moving thru it, and then try and make a heat shield around the whole contraption......theoretically, that should help.....

or look into performance radiators or bigger fans, etc...

I'd like a CAI but it might be more of a hassle than it's worth. In Houston, it's hot and humid 90% of the time and the rest of the time it floods. I don't want to worry about hydrolocking my engine. I figure I have less chance of that if I just modify my stock box. I dunno. I saw some cold air boxes around a short ram intake on the weapon-r site (www.weapon-r.com/airbox.html) and Sport Compact Car says "Underhood temperatures can easily exceed 160 degrees Farenheit so do everything possible to ensure you draw the coolest air avaliable into your engine. Build a wall out of ABS plastic, aluminum, or even rubber sheeting that isolates the filter from the rest of the hot engine compartment."

I might try to fabricate one if I get some free time later this year... i'll see.

I'm also looking at upgrading the fan like you said.... but they're $$$. What about trimming some of the bodywork to promote airflow...

i think a cai routed into the fender wall would be a good idea. theres less of a chance for water to get sucked up into the intake. you shouldnt be driving through such deep puddles anyways. there are a few people here who have done this and i'm sure they could help you out. DONT use ABS plastic in the engine bay by the way, thats a no no.

Call Fluidyne about a radiator that would fit your car.
Make sure your thermostat and coolant are good too.

Other than that your car should run fine.

Yeah...I'm gonna order some water wetter after I replace my water pump and thermostat. I think someone here said to change the thermostat when you replce the water pump. I'm also going to remove the hood lining and change my grill to promote better airflow.
As for the intake I stood in the cold staring at my engine bay for an hour and decided and I'm either going to build a CAI or possibly relocate my battery to the trunk and build a cold air intake box. Can any tell me were to get instruction so I can be looking things over while it's too cold and rainy to work on my car. Thanks again.
