3rd Generation 5S-FE 5-speed conversion, need a couple bits of info

All:

I have a 1992 LE 5S-FE Camry Wagon here that I am considering doing a five speed conversion on since the (blown) motor is coming out and the autobox is just shy of a quarter million miles.

I have read over the info in the Camry FAQ section and others online, but all I can find are persons that did the conversions on V6 cars.

Most of the conversion is covered elsewhere, but here are the bits I wish to figure out, if someone has answers or can direct me to them, I would appreciate the help:

Transmission code: E153, was this box used on all Gen 3 cars? From a Toyota of Germany tech sheet I have it shows the European market Gen 3 V6 and I4 cars having the same ratios, ditto in the States?

It appears with the 5S-FE the axels are the same on automatic/5 speed unlike the six?

What tricks/problems with the ECU for 1992 for the 5S-FE (other than neutral safety switch)?

Any other advice would be of help. I have done a few import automatic to manual conversions in the past, a bit of work, but worth it in the end.

Thanks and until later -

Garrett

Find a junked Camry. Pull the gauges, the ecu, the clutch assy, reservoir, etc etc etc etc. I would personally just buy a Manual transmission'd Camry out of the box. (1993 V6 SE )

Well, there lies the rub...

I have a junked Camry here, 1995 5S-FE LE 7-passenger wagon (anyone need a nice tan interior?). This is the source of my motor, 134a air-con, rear disc brakes and suspension. I can find the bits I need from local junkyards/Toyota, but have yet to find an entire dead 5-speed car. Unfortunately, this one is going to be piecemeal at best....

I converted a Volvo once (my first conversion) and had both cars to work from, which was nice to see how things were arranged. My last conversion was a Renault R21/Medallion and I did not have both cars and it was a bit more difficult.

Thanks-

Garrett

All:

I have the motor out of both cars (one you can see daylight though one where the big end of rod #4 decided to leave out both sides of the block) and the other is on the stand ready to have parts swapped over. I have my 134a and rear disc brake parts to pull yet too off the black car.

Soon it will be time to gather the transmission bits, so any help I could get soon would be most appreciated.

Or am I going into new territory, as I said before, all the info I could find was for the V6s.

One other bit, the hydraulic motor mounts on both of my cars have A/T marked on their boots. Am I to assume that the auto and manual mouts are different dampening between the cars (I have seen this on other cars). Anyone else have a comment on this, or is the AT not transmission related?

Thanks again!

Garrett
