Celica tranny in a 2nd gen CAmry???

Well I feel like my tranny's about to go out. I've heard that a ceratin of generation of Celicas have the 3SFE engine, which is what I got in my 88 Camry. Would a automatic tranny from a Celica of that Generation bolt up to my Camry's engine? Would the bolt pattern be the same, would the shifter be in the same spot inside the car as mine is now? I didn't know if since it was the same engine the cars both had the same tranny, but with different gear ratios. PLEASE someone help me on this, from the sounds of it I only got a few thousand miles to go!

What years of Celicas do i need to look for? From what I remember a 91 will fit but I need the other years in case the place I go to doesn't carry it.

1986 to 1989

The Camry 2.5L V6 transmission should fit also (fits the 3S-GTE)

I believe he was talking about the V6 manual tranny... You will need new V6 axels if you use the V6 tranny on a 4 cylinder car - just something to think about.

I was talking to one of my friends about putting in a Celica tranny and he said why not go with the manual (since I got auto now) and I was telling him about the simple fact that I dont have a clutch pedal and he said his friend put one in a few hours. Is it really this easy?

Its not 'that easy' exactly. There are a lot of other parts that you need to get and put in the car, like the shift linkage, shifter and some other stuff (maybe axels or something like that). I believe the ecu in the gen2 is the same between the manual and auto versions, but I could be wrong. It has been done on the gen2 before, but you could easily run into problems.
