man this is some bs i solve one problem right away get another...today I drove for about 5 minutes and my freakin overflow coolant tank started boiling and squirting out water thru the hood line and steamed like a freakin train...what can be causing this? the reason i seen water actually squirt out is because it the plastic tank has a little crack on one of the top corners. But why would the overflow tank even boil in the first place? help!!!

If your engine temp gauge is showing normal(about half way up the dial), then no, your engine coolant should not be boiling. Are you using an Ethlene Glycol mix for the coolant? If so, does it have the correct mixture? About 50/50 should be about right. That is half water and half of the green stuff.
See cuz unless your temp gauge is in the RED area, it means that your engine is functioning at normal operating temp.
Nah the engine temp is normal and I'm using regular antifreeze 50/50 with water. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but 2 days ago I had an oil change and driving back from the place everything was normal...no boiling or steaming. I haven't driven the car over the weekends and drove today for about 5-10 minutes and thats when the boiling happened.
could be a bad radiator cap. You can get a tester probably at autozone to test it amd make sure that it is holding pressure the way it is supposed to be.

I checked it out right now. I opened the overflow tank and it was pretty much empty. The radiator isn't full but when I opened it some antifreeze came out from the cap so im sure the radiator isn't completely empty. I turned the car on and the fan turned on right away. I also noticed that what used to be a crack in the overflow tank has turned into a hole on the top corner of the overflow tank. Can this be a radiator problem?
Thanks for the help.
well a crack or hole inthe overflow will obviously cause you to loose coolant. WHen the coolant reaches a certain temp and pressure it can force coolant into the overflow. then when it goes back down it will suck it back into the cooling system. If you have a hole and loosing coolant through the overflow then yeah it could be a problem. It is not pressurized but it could cause your problem. Like I said you should check your radiator cap and then look at gettinga new overflow. I would try that first.

I hope thats just it. Would be an easy fix. It's just that I have been driving with the crack in the overflow tank for years and it never happened before. It never leaked out from the top and the overflow tank is always filled 3/4. So what ever caused it to boil made it lose all the coolent by squirting out thru that hole.
check your heater hose, sometimes the hose going to your heater core could be fucked up, and cause you to over heat and lose coolant. Had this problem with my dads pontiac, we just bypassed it cuz its hold.

Man those shady places has "courtesy services" they might have poured some without realizing that overflow tank some times doesn't show any coolent it but that doesn't mean it is lacking it. Make sure that wasn't the case. Over filled tank would cause #$^$@#^%^ to happen. I know...
Well the overflow tank was actually 3/4 filled so it wasn't full at all. Anyway, the camry is at the shop right now so hopefully after work it will be ready..dammit I just burned some new CD's too...i wanna bump!!!
Make sure the oil change place put oil(the correct level) back in. I have heard of them filling with the plug off and then having people leave with no oil. This would obviosly cause overheating. Good luck!
Well the guage showed normal temp's and after changing the oil I drove about 35 minutes and didn't see this problem. The boiling problem happened two days later. Well I'll update this post tonight after I find out what the problem was from the mechanic. Thanks all
thermostat? back when my water pump was about dead, and i drove for awhile, like to the bank, i cut off my engine -save gas in teller line- it was cold and i heard the rad. fluid bubbling, and it steamed outta my hood.i think it was where the motor's coolant cap was letting the reely hot coolant flow back into the over flow tank.
but i was constantly loosing coolant tho. when i figured out it was my pump, i had filled up my rad, and overflow with water, then let it run, and i looked under the car and it looked like my car was pissing!!
hope this helps some tho.
best o luck to ya!
